What Makes Prime Advanced Digestive Support Unique?

The gut and our central nervous system are intertwined, and together have a direct impact on the body’s emotional state, metabolism, healthy aging and immune function. For this reason, the gut is often referred to as the “second brain” or the “little brain” as it plays a key role in our overall physical, mental and metabolic wellbeing. The gut microbiota, or the community of microorganisms within your intestines, both small and large, vary in bacterial abundance as well as function. In other words, biodiversity and a proper ratio of the bacteria in the gut are critical to the functioning of the body, its metabolism and healthy aging. The microorganisms that live in our gut affect how the body functions cognitively and physiologically, influencing the overall workings of the body and the body’s ability to maintain healthy cardiovascular, immune and nervous systems. The foods we consume, particularly our fat and fiber choices, create the proper environment for this intestinal ecosystem to thrive. Fiber-rich foods (such as resistant starches or prebiotics) remain undigested until they reach the large intestine, they are the source of incredible energy and hormone signaling as they are broken down by bacteria through fermentation. This process creates healthy bacterial diversity and subsequent postbiotics or short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) which are a preferred metabolic energy for the intestines as well as the immune, vascular and nervous systems throughout the body. While probiotics create a local environment in the small and large bowel, SCFAs create a systemic approach to metabolic energy balance in the form of healthy digestion, blood glucose metabolism, lipid production, and immune and cognitive function; this is referred to as the gut-brain axis and its preferred energetic currency are SCFAs.

Short-chain fatty acids are sources of energy for healthy cardiovascular function and metabolism and are considered to be the critical link for the gut-brain connection or “Axis.” In addition to eating a fiber-rich diet, supplementing with direct short-chain fatty acids such as butyrate, propionate or acetate can support the microbiome’s diversity and gut barrier function. Maintaining healthy metabolic functioning relies on healthy food choices, lifestyle habits and often supplementation to support healthy cellular energy, lipids and blood sugar hormones, which provides benefits from fitness to aging potential for everyone. SCFAs can help the body perform at its best metabolically. PRIME™ Advanced Digestive Support provides a botanical blend of amino acid-derived fatty acids, CoreBiome® (Tributyrin) and Berberine. This gluten-free, non-GMO supplement supports ongoing SCFA production within the intestine to help maintain a healthy intestinal barrier to support gut health, metabolic health and cognitive health.

One contributing factor that influences the way the brain and gut communicate is the presence of SCFAs in the gut, in which a lack of the proper balance of beneficial postbiotic SCFAs can interrupt the way the two communicate. Although fiber is non-digestible, it plays an essential role in supporting healthy digestion; specifically, it serves as a prebiotic that may help the regularity of bowel movements by helping to maintain healthy blood glucose levels. Prebiotics are essential to the body and act as the food source for the probiotics or essentially the “good” bacteria located within the gut. Fiber belongs to the carbohydrate family but differs from most carbohydrates due to its inability to be broken down into sugar molecules. When fiber goes through the process of fermentation in the large intestine, one of the main organs promoting gut health, the “good” bacteria use it as a food source to produce SCFA, one of which is butyrate. Higher levels of dietary fiber intake contribute to an increase in the production of butyrate, one of the main energy sources for colonocytes and intestinal cells that make up your gut lining. Scientific studies show that supplementing with a direct butyrate promotes postbiotic SCFA production, supporting a healthy microbiome for metabolic health.

PRIME™ Advanced Digestive Support delivers 600 mg of the clinically studied ingredient CoreBiome® (containing three molecules of butyrate), in combination with 150 mg of Berberine to help the microbiome through the support of healthy intestinal and colonic permeability. As of 2022, the only postbiotic supplement on the market that has reportedly shown to target the colon and both the small and large intestine is CoreBiome®. The ingredient of CoreBiome®, the butyrate acting SCFA, is highly bioavailable or easily absorbed by the colon, encouraging the production of colonocytes. Butyrate is a unique signaling molecule that has receptors in nearly all cells and is an important aspect of colonocyte metabolism. These little colonocytes are desired by the colon for providing an oxygen-free environment for the beneficial microbes (or the gut flora) to flourish and support the thickness and health of the body’s intestinal walls. When the SCFA production of acetate and propionate outweighs the SCFA butyrate production it can interfere with the colon’s ability to metabolize and can contribute to insulin resistance. Thus, healthy levels of butyrate can help maintain a healthy metabolism, whereas a lack of healthy colonocyte production may make it more difficult for the microbiome to carry out the ability to maintain homeostasis.

PRIME™ Advanced Digestive Support’s ingredients, Corebiome® (a butyrate derivative) and Berberine, also have a promoting factor in the production of the two gut bugs known as Faecalibacterium prausnitzii (specific to butyrate production) and Akkermansia muciniphila (supported by the prebiotic acting ingredient, Berberine). Berberine is essential for supporting the increase of the “good” bacteria that aid in butyrate production, while butyrate serves as an important by-product produced from the probiotic gut bacteria. PRIME™ Advanced Digestive Support’s unique ingredient, Berberine, helps maintain a healthy microbial balance in the large intestine. Being one of the richest bacteria residing in the intestine, Akkermansia muciniphila is an important microbe of the intestine’s metabolic process which helps support healthy insulin activity and healthy lipid metabolism.

PRIME™ Advanced Digestive Support was made with comfort in mind, crafted with ingredients that help support the continual production of the body’s SCFA postbiotics to help support a healthy environment for the microbiome to thrive. The food we put in our body and the way we treat it can affect the way we perform. In addition to genetics, a diet lacking in fiber, consuming too many processed foods, age or a slowing metabolism, and lack of sleep and exercise can also be contributing factors associated with a decrease in the body’s natural production of postbiotic SCFAs. As Shakespeare warns, “Things sweet to taste prove in digestion sour.” Metabolism may change with age, but your digestion does not have to.

Your gut health is not what it used to be! Optimizing gut health from start to finish.

Key Ingredients

CoreBiome® (Tributyrin)
CoreBiome® is a derivative of butyrate, which is a byproduct of the microbiota in our gut. A great source of butyrate is derived from the vegetables we eat, which nourish our bodies with fiber. However, the body cannot always break down the fibers as it moves through the digestive tract. This is where the microbiota step in – to break down these fibers that then ferment into butyrate, one of many short-chain fatty acids. SCFA support microbiome health by supporting a healthy microbiome and a balanced flora. By maintaining a healthy digestive environment and healthy intestinal barrier and permeability, butyrate plays a great role in supporting digestive, gut, and gastrointestinal health. CoreBiome® is a great option for the picky eaters that may not consume optimal amounts of vegetables, and it is extra support for those who already do.

Berberine
Berberine is an isoquinoline plant alkaloid found in a variety of plants including barberry, Oregon grape, goldenseal, goldthread, and tree turmeric, with its history of use dating back to Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine. Studies have shown berberine to have both hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic properties, which helps maintain normal blood and cholesterol levels. Scientists believe that by upregulating the expression of LDL, berberine contributes to supporting healthy cholesterol levels. Similarly, berberine is thought to support healthy blood glucose levels. Additionally, berberine may support the production of akkermansia, a beneficial bacterium that has been reported to maintain healthy intestinal mucus secretion and thus support the intestinal barrier.

FAQs

  1. What gut bacteria are associated with butyrate SCFA production?
Butyricicoccus pullicaecorum, Eubacterium rectale, Faecalibacterium prausnitzii and Roseburia spp.

  2. What is the connection between dietary fiber and blood sugar levels?
Fiber is non-digestible and moves slowly through the digestive system. Although it is a carbohydrate, it does not convert into sugar, leaving you feeling fuller longer and helping to maintain blood sugar levels.

  3. Who would benefit from this product?
Those looking for direct postbiotic support or individuals who are interested in maintaining healthy communication between the gut-brain axis, which plays into the working systems of the body to support digestive health and the production of SCFA.

  4. What is the difference between a prebiotic, probiotic and a post-biotic?
Prebiotics are fiber or resistant starches that the body cannot digest. Instead, they are the fuel for probiotics and help support the growth of healthy bacteria in the gut. Probiotics are produced in the gut as fiber goes through the fermentation process within the large intestine and colon, or by eating foods that are fermented, such as sauerkraut, kefir, yogurt, goat cheese or kimchi. These “good” bacteria manufacture beneficial vitamins to prevent “bad” bacteria from entering the blood, which helps the body digest food by breaking its own for absorption. Postbiotics are short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) that may help support healthy cholesterol and help maintain healthy blood pressure levels. An imbalance in the microbiome can result in dysbiosis and affect your body. A well-balanced diet can help support your body’s beneficial bacteria, but supplementation may also be helpful to maintain regularity.

  5. What other products would pair well with this supplement?
Digestive health is important for overall wellbeing. Maintaining daily digestive health may be a priority for some, while others may only need occasional support. Probiotics-10, NutriClean® Probiotics, NutriClean® Advanced Fiber Powder or Daily Greens would also be ways to supplement for digestive and overall health support.

  6. What are the three most common short-chain fatty acids (postbiotic metabolites) that are essential to the gut?
Butyrate, acetate and propionate. The cells in the lining of the gut require butyrate to function properly. Butyrate gives energy to colonocytes (cells in the gut lining) which maintain an oxygen-free environment for beneficial gut microbes (or gut flora) to thrive. Keeping gut cells and bacteria happy and healthy. Acetate, the most abundantly produced by the gut, helps maintain the pH and keep gut acid levels low. Propionate assists in the production of glucose in the liver.

  7. Why does the aging body benefit from butyrate?
Over time the gut microbiome diversity changes. This results in one needing to pay more attention to proper diet, exercise and proper hydration. Even with a healthy diet, it may be necessary to supplement the gut to retain postbiotics such as butyrate to maintain a healthy gut lining.

  8. Why should I use this product if I already have a high-fiber diet?
Diets should consist of a good balance of healthy foods including fiber. It is recommended that healthy adults consume an average of 25 grams of fiber daily. Fiber is a carbohydrate but does not convert into sugar. Instead, fiber moves through the digestive system to help clean, giving a feeling of fullness and maintaining healthy blood sugar levels.

  9. Are there any warnings associated with this product or the product’s ingredients?
PRIME™ Advanced Digestive Support is intended for adults 18 years and older. CoreBiome® and Berberine are ingredients that are intended to maintain a healthy gut microbiome but may also contribute to changes in blood sugar. Do not take if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or are pregnant or breastfeeding. As with any change in supplementation, consult your primary physician before using.

Better Results than Probiotics Alone

Taking the AXIS Digestive has made a huge difference in my digestion. I haven't used probiotics regularly. I hadn't noticed any difference taking or not taking them. I don't want to be without the AXIS Digestive supplement.

My new favorite product

I honestly thought I had my digestive system on track, but this new product has sealed the deal. My tummy has never felt (or looked) better. It is the missing link in my gut health regimen.
